How To’s for a Minimalistic Farmhouse Style

There are a few elements that really make a kitchen stand out, it all depends on what style you want to go with. Today we’ll talk about the farmhouse kitchen. Over the years, the farmhouse style has developed in many different ways. You could easily combine any style with the farmhouse theme. One of our personal favourites, at the moment, is the minimalistic farmhouse kitchen. We gravitate towards farmhouse because we love everything wood, and the minimalistic aesthetics brings out the organic feel of a farmhouse. Now, what does that even mean?

When we think of a farmhouse kitchen, we’re thinking exposed wood beams, farm house sink, wood cabinets (that can be any colour), rustic light fixtures and so on. Now, when we think of minimalistic kitchen, we are imagining neutral colours, with pops of green from our house plants and wood accents. Minimalism can be defined in so many ways, we define it as making a space functional and beautiful without being cluttered.

Kitchen Cabinets and Countertops

First things first, the kitchen cabinets and countertop. In our opinion, the kitchen cabinets could be any colour you prefer. We love the look of maple cabinets with a deep wood stain. We also like the upper cabinets to be a different colour. Let’s say our countertop is a stunning white quart, we would have the upper cabinets white, to match the countertop. This look also gives the illusion of length, making the floor to ceiling height greater. We also love the look of navy cabinets with a butcher block countertop. We would oil the butcher block to give it a finished look for a farmhouse feel and it still being functional for food preparations.

Get more done by being minimalistic and stress-free + Our favourite song at the moment!

Life can easily be overwhelming and stressful sometimes, especially when we keep adding tasks to our “to do” list. Some tasks keep being pushed to the next day and never ever get done. We can all relate to it, we’ve all been there and some of us are there, right now. Over the years we’ve learned a few tricks on how to calm the mind and slow down. Surprisingly, by doing so, we got a lot more done! The idea is to pay attention to our daily priorities and the rest can be put on hold. Urgency creates a sense of high stress combined with pressure. It can easily get rough if you put that kind of urgency on everything. So let’s be okay with baby steps!

1. Prioritize

Like we just mentioned, prioritizing daily or weekly tasks is key to having relaxing days! No one can avoid chaos forever, but it’s definitely manageable. Start simple with making a list of your daily must do’s. It can be a list on your mobile device or simply by writing it down on a piece of paper. Take the time each morning or evening to make that list carefully and eliminate unnecessary tasks that will just clutter your day. Cross off each task as you accomplish them, it will feel awesome! Plus, at the end of the day you will have a sense of purpose because you got so much done!

Living room trends we are loving + styling tips

We love when a space embraces a combination of character and modern elements. It becomes more complex and unique to each person’s taste and style. In the past year, there were a few living room trends that really stood out to us! In this article we’ll share two different styles that we love.

Country house inspired living room:

We love everything country house related, it’s always a very cozy space with warm and inviting details. There are a few essentials in order to get this look right, starting with the walls and flooring. The walls are generally simple and warm tones, such as yellows, creme’s, white tones and such. That ensures keeping a simple base to work with. For the flooring there are a lot of options. We prefer hardwood planks, since they are generally wider and make a strong statement. As for the shade of the floors that’s entirely up to you and the colour scheme you are going with.

Our favourite kitchen trends plus simple ways to add more flavour to your daily meals

There are so many trends and styles of kitchen we enjoy and here are a few trends we are loving at the moment.

Two tone kitchens

We’ve all seen kitchen cabinets where the lower cabinets were a different colour than the upper ones. We really enjoy this trend because it allows to add more colour to the kitchen plus it creates the illusion of higher ceilings if done properly. Our favourite combination is the upper cabinets to be a lighter colour, in order to create a smooth transition between the two cabinets we also like the countertop to be a lighter colour.

That will connect the upper and lower cabinet in a very effortless way. To add more depth to the kitchen, have fun by adding colour to the lower cabinets. We love blue tones, especially navy or dusty blues. For a more colourful and bold kitchen, yellow tones are stunning, especially when having lots of sunlight come through. Because of the yellow, the sunshine has more impact. The best part is, you can always paint the lower cabinets a different colour when needing a change. It’s an easier option than having to paint the whole kitchen.

Must Haves For Putting Together A Cozy Master Bedroom

Sometimes we spend time decorating and organizing a space just to realize it has been turned upside down by our kids. We love our kids, very much. But at that very moment, it can be a little frustrating. What we realized and accepted with time is that our house will have a certain character, if you will, from our kids touch. We call it organized chaos and we learned to love it. Because we have a little piece of the house that is completely ours, that is organized the way we prefer and decorated with our own personal chaos. Yes we are talking about the master bedroom.

The perfect table for your cozy kitchen nook

There are a few different ways to create more space in your kitchen. One of our favourite ones is a kitchen nook! Kitchen nooks are extremely cozy, stylish and very practical. We all have a little corner in our home that is surrounded by windows and natural light, and we don’t really know what to do with. It could be in the kitchen, sunroom or even living room. Now that would be the perfect location to have a little nook. There are many different sizes of nooks you can play with, depending on the space size you are working around.

Size and location aside, all nooks have a couple things in common. Because nooks generally fit around a corner, a bench is ideal to fill it that space. Then there’s usually a smaller to medium sized table, it would be round, oval or square… Even rectangular if you are putting together a larger nook. Then we have a couple chairs on the other side of the bench to complete the nook.

Here’s why this is the ideal set up! We like to place the chairs on the opposite side of the bench where there isn’t a wall behind them to create the illusion of more space. Due to chairs already having a backrest, there is no need for a wall right behind them. The bench on the other hand needs the support of the wall and acts like a back support. Also, if you are a fan of additional storage, you could always go with a bench that has built-in storage. It could become your secret place where you could hide all birthday gifts or Christmas gifts away from your curious family members.

Now that we’ve got the sitting arrangement done, let’s tackle the table. The table is an essential part of the kitchen nook. Our ideal choice would be a table that provides room all around. We love table that are built with table legs right in the middle to create a breathable and roomy design. Here are a few tables that would fit your kitchen nook perfectly, keep in mind you can customize any of our tables with the stain you prefer!

Grand Louvre Table:

Stunning and stylish, this round table is a great choice that fits a variety of tastes and styles. It has strong design features with elegant lines that would bring a subtle wow factor to the space.

For example, from the dining room to the living room, we like to connect the two rooms in a subtle way.
