There are a few elements that really make a kitchen stand out, it all depends on what style you want to go with. Today we’ll talk about the farmhouse kitchen. Over the years, the farmhouse style has developed in many different ways. You could easily combine any style with the farmhouse theme. One of our personal favourites, at the moment, is the minimalistic farmhouse kitchen. We gravitate towards farmhouse because we love everything wood, and the minimalistic aesthetics brings out the organic feel of a farmhouse. Now, what does that even mean?
When we think of a farmhouse kitchen, we’re thinking exposed wood beams, farm house sink, wood cabinets (that can be any colour), rustic light fixtures and so on. Now, when we think of minimalistic kitchen, we are imagining neutral colours, with pops of green from our house plants and wood accents. Minimalism can be defined in so many ways, we define it as making a space functional and beautiful without being cluttered.
Kitchen Cabinets and Countertops
First things first, the kitchen cabinets and countertop. In our opinion, the kitchen cabinets could be any colour you prefer. We love the look of maple cabinets with a deep wood stain. We also like the upper cabinets to be a different colour. Let’s say our countertop is a stunning white quart, we would have the upper cabinets white, to match the countertop. This look also gives the illusion of length, making the floor to ceiling height greater. We also love the look of navy cabinets with a butcher block countertop. We would oil the butcher block to give it a finished look for a farmhouse feel and it still being functional for food preparations.
Wood Beams
In our opinion, wood beams are a must in a farmhouse kitchen. Over the years, wood beams have been more and more popular. With its popularity came more design ideas. There are also a large variety of beams to fit any ceiling type. For this one, it’s too hard to choose a favourite. Any kitchen with wood beams we’ve seen, so far, has impressed us.
Light Fixtures
Rustic light fixtures play a critical role in a farmhouse kitchen. To keep it minimalistic, we love placing light fixtures above the kitchen island. This way, the lights are in the centre of the kitchen and complementing the kitchen island perfectly. There are a lot to choose from, so it all comes down to personal preference.
Houseplants
Houseplants are a great way to bring out the natural farmhouse feel and emphasis the minimalistic style. Here are some of our favourite houseplants. The fiddle leaf fig tree is a popular amongst many, it’s stunning luscious leaves and easy-to-take-care-of plant makes the fiddle leaf tree the perfect houseplant. A few other easy plants to take care of, that need minimal to no light, are the ZZ plants, snake plants and the pothos plants.
